Opacity Line

This tutorial is short, but is very basic. The opacity line skill is one of the most popular techniques used out there in the designer world. A lot of people who are new to photoshop want to know how to do this technique, so here is the tutorial.

Step 1

Open the picture or image that you want to add the opacity line to. Here is mine, i wipped it up quickly for this tutorial. If you add an opacity line and there is no stroke around the main image, than it will look bad. So before you start, on your main image layer (background) select all (ctrl+a) and go to edit>stroke and make the stroke 1px and black. Now your final image will look good once you add the opacity line.

Step 2

Now, create a new layer, grab the rectangular marquee, and pull out a selection that is the width of the entire image but very thin in height. And fill this with white

Step 3

Now go to the layer styles of the new layer that you made the fill on, and add 1px thin stroke

*Contraversy*

Lots of the pro's believe that you should just keep the selection and go to edit>stroke, but i believe in this case that my technique is better because you can lower the fill of the white to make fade effect, while doing no difference to the stroke

Step 4

This is the final step. In this step all you have to do is edit the fill, so you can see the background more. Do not edit the opacity this will cause the line and the stroke to fade away, you only want the white fill to fade.

My Final Image:

This is my final image, i added some text, and thats pretty much it. Its a pretty kool effect.
