| Publishing Your Podcast |
Before you can share your podcast with the world, you will need an account with a hosting company. First do some research as there are thousands of them out there and although there are a lot of good ones there are scams amongst them.
Recommendation from someone you know is probably the best way to find a good hosting company, ask a trusted friend or associate which one they use. Also look online, but be careful as often the reviews you get on messageboards and on websites are fakes, and put there to encourage you into signing up with a paritular company. The reviewers are often associates of the owners, and sometimes even the owners themselves.
There are cheap plans out there, but people don't seem to have as much trouble with the companies that charge a little more, so one tip is to pay at least $15/month. These companies can afford to treat you well and often it is the case that you get exactly what you pay for.
Before your sign up check that you can reach their technical support department by phone. If they have a phone number that they actually answer, they're probably a bigger, more reputable company. It's okay if you only use their email support, just make sure they've also got phone support.
Some companies give you free hosting but usually they limit your space and often plaster your site with their own ads. These accounts may be sufficient for short clip shows and you can always move your site to paid hosting option later.
Another free option is uploading your files to the Internet Archive at http://www.archive.org/ -- but before you do, read through the site to make sure you agree with their philosophy. People upload their podcasts to this site to save money and get exposure.
If you want to get into Video Blogging, another option is Google Video. They host your videos for you and many people are already uploading and sharing their files. You can share only the most recent shows on your server, and sell access to the archives or let people download them using bittorrent.
