Microsoft Releases the ASP.NET Forums (Version 1)

by John Peterson

There's been talk in the ASP.NET community for a while now about the forums that Microsoft runs over at their http://www.asp.net site. Ever since the forums went up, users have been asking for a version that they could install and use on their own sites. Well Microsoft does actually listen to these requests and has been working on getting a package together for some time now. Well it's here and here's a quick look at it...

The Download

You can get the code from http://www.asp.net/Forums/Download/. It's a pretty small download and weighs in at only about 0.65MB. The download page includes links to pages that include the system requirements, installation notes, and most other info or docs that you might need.

Service Pack 1 Already!

Even more so then usual, Microsoft had their standard version 1 problems which prompted a very quick post of Service Pack 1. If you just downloaded the file from above you shouldn't need it, but if you downloaded it previously, you should check your build as outlined on the service pack page... builds 971 and 972 should apply the patch.

Screen Shots

Just to give you a feel for the forums before you download them, I've got some screen captures for you. The first two are from the installation, the third is a cap of the first forum run right "out of the box" before any configuration, and the last is the "out of the box" view when logged in as a user.
